I was due to have an outpatient appointment at The Royal London Hospital today but this was changed to a telephone consultation with the IBD Specialist Pharmacist. She was fantastic and clarified something that had been on my mind re:Azathioprine.
Basically I asked her that during the Covid-19 outbreak would it be sensible for me to come off my 75mg Azathioprine, an immuno-suppressant, that I take in conjunction with 4 x 1200mg Mezavant.
She said stay on the Azathioprine. By coming off, it might result in a flare up which would actually make me high risk and more susceptible to catching Covid-19, and also to go on steroids which have a worse immune suppression effect than the Azathioprine.
Hope this is comforting news to those on it out there.
